Some Humble Pie

The pastor I’ve referred to now a couple of times in previous posts – that’s right the guy who suggested that 90% of fundamentalism holds to some type of King James position – sent me a note with a legitimate rebuke. He provided me with some enrollment figures that served to demolish my off-hand comment about Bob Jones University having a higher enrollment than all of these King James’ schools combined (see my earlier post on Bible versions).

Here I was accusing him of making a gross exaggeration of the actual situation among fundamentalists, and I was, at the same time, doing the same thing in regard to the enrollment comment. Well I was wrong to write this, and I have been reminded how careful I must be when trying to argue a point I strongly believe. No one wants to hurt his argument by throwing in an untrue statement that can serve to derail the truth of his overall point. So I hope our readers will forgive me as I seek to be truthful and precise in everything I write.

Thanks for writing this. Most people if confronted with a rebuke regarding something they wrote will ignore it or casually dismiss it. Thanks for setting the standard and doing it with grace and humility!
